Stylish Fashion & Home Decor
Exploring the Journey of Creations By Julie Brayton
Can You Picture Yourself Wearing This Outfit?
Not all styles are meant for us. It can be fun to look at trends on models and actors but it’s not always the best choice for who we are or where we live not to mention what we do for a living.
In my last blog, I discussed Earth Day and the benefits of organic, sustainable products. On the sidebar, you’ll find links to Alex Crane’s clothing and a post about the environmental impact of polyester.
While it’s challenging to completely avoid non-organic, synthetic fabrics, incorporating more natural materials into our wardrobes can positively impact the environment. I also want to highlight some fantastic products from local artisans in my area of Westerly, RI.
I have a deep appreciation for the arts and love collecting handmade items whenever I can. Supporting artists and artisans who contribute to the beauty and health of our world is incredibly fulfilling, and I hope you feel the same way.
For instance, check out Hillery Soaps.
I use and love her products. I’ve noticed some healing properties on my skin after using her lotion. Hillery is a local artisan who once displayed her products in my storefront.
You might not know this, but I have experience in fashion design. In fact, there’s hardly any art-related field I haven’t explored. There was a time when I sewed my own clothes, creating unique patterns from Vogue and Burda. I used fabrics like ultra-suede to enhance my designs. Back then, it was more economical to sew your own clothes than to buy them, unlike today. I kept a sketchbook of clothing designs, which was essential before the internet made it easy to see what others were creating. For example, I once envisioned a zebra-patterned fabric long before it became popular, and I sketched angled hemlines that later became a trend.
After much experimentation, I’ve realized my style is a mix of classic, bohemian, and artsy. What about you? Do you know your style, or better yet, do you know what looks good on you? Here’s a checklist to help you identify your personal fashion style:
– **Reflect on your values and personality:** Your clothing should reflect who you are and what’s important to you.
– **Look at your closet:** Identify what you like and dislike. Experiment with different looks.
– **Find inspiration:** Create a mood board or Pinterest board with outfits, colors, patterns, and silhouettes you like.
– **Consider colors:** Think about which colors inspire you and look good on you.
– **Be objective about your body shape:** Understand your body’s unique structure and buy clothes that fit well and suit your silhouette.
– **Take creative risks:** Step outside your comfort zone and try new things.
Promoting eco-friendly clothing options is crucial, though not all styles and fashions support sustainability. I am also creating designs for Print On Demand, and while not all these products are sustainable, my goal is to eventually offer clothing designed and handmade by me and my aunt. (I’ll tell you more about her next time.) Some Print On Demand products are organic and sustainable, and I will highlight those.
I’ve curated a few simple items from Amazon that are organic and sustainable. Check the sidebar, or if on your phone, below for these recommendations. Please note that I earn a small commission from any purchases made through these links, which doesn’t affect the price you pay. Rest assured, I only share products I would buy myself. I am here to support you and hope you’ll support me as well.
I have so much more to discuss, but I’ll save that for next time. Stay tuned for more topics on fashion and products to enhance your life.

My Why
In everything I do nature is incorporated. My goal or mission is to bring reminders and connection to the importance each individual has through the connection to nature. How we all can honor the essence of who we have always been meant to be. Creativity, whether through collecting art or creating it, is a healing force that allows us to embrace, tell and own our stories in a transformative and ultimately joyful way.
